Cannon Junior Development Class Descriptions 2011-2012

POLAR BEARS (ages 3-4)
The primary goal of this 2-hour class is to provide a fun and safe introduction to skiing. By the end of the season, these young skiers should be able to ski the whole lower mountain with competence and confidence. All participants must be able to use the toilet independently and be three years of age prior to December 15, 2011. A copy of the child’s birth certificate must accompany registration/season pass paperwork.

ROCKIN’ ROBINS (ages 4-6)
This is a transitional group between Polar Bears and Gremlins. Skiers in this group have a season or two of experience, but are still gaining confidence on green terrain. The goal of the class is to expand their comfort zone into blue terrain.

GREMLINS (Ages 4-6)
CANNONEERS (Ages 6-8)
The children in this group are confident skiers on green and some blue terrain, working toward linked parallel turns on blue terrain. The goal of the class is to strengthen their skills so they can maneuver safely on more challenging trails. Some classes may be able to ski from the top by the end of the season.

SNOW LEOPARDS (Ages 5-7)
CHALLENGERS (Ages 7-9)
These skiers are confident on blue terrain, working toward linked parallel turns on more challenging terrain and varied snow surfaces. Goals of the class include independence on the chairlifts and confidence on blue and black trails at Cannon.

BANSHEES (Ages 7-9)
SIDE CUTS (Ages 9-11)
Proficient and confidant, these upper-intermediate level skiers are ready to challenge themselves. The goals of the class include using the side cut of the skis to carve and exploring more advanced terrain.

BLASTERS (Ages 10-13)
Students in this group must be strong parallel skiers. The main focus of the class is to develop a high level of versatility in each student’s skiing. Skiers learn to put finesse and efficiency into their skiing and explore different ways of skiing the same slope.

WINCH CATS (Ages 8-10)
MOGUL MEISTERS (Ages 10-15)
For strong parallel skiers who want to increase their exposure to more challenging terrain. The main goal is to develop short-radius parallel turns in the fall line on bumpy or tree-filled terrain.

CANNON RACING (Ages 6-15)
Some gate training and drills for accomplished skiers who are getting serious about racing. Students must have the experience and confidence to handle Cannon’s challenging terrain before qualifying to ski with this group.

FREERIDE (Ages 13-15)
Bumps, trees & Mittersill - the skiers in this class will learn how to take their skills onto the terrain that Cannon has to offer with an emphasis on safety and fun. Students must be confident and advanced skiers to enroll in this group.

SNOWBOARDING
